We didn’t arrive at LEMN DROPS from the outside looking in at the music industry. We came from inside it.

As an independent guitarist and songwriter who has used streaming platforms to share original music, the reality of streaming payouts is not an abstract concern — it is something felt with every royalty statement. Thousands of streams. Cents in return. A system that was never designed to support the independent artist.

At the same time, over a decade of professional work in software development and NFC technology made the shape of a solution increasingly clear. NFC technology — the same standard that powers contactless payments, travel on public transport systems and smart packaging — is elegant, universal, and perfectly suited to a new kind of music format. A physical object that a fan can own, that unlocks their music digitally with a tap, that requires no hardware they don’t already have, and that compensates the artist fairly from the moment of sale.

LEMN DROPS is where those two things meet. Not a technology project that found music. A musician and technologist who built the format they wished existed.
