LEMN DROPS is an acronym for Limited Edition Music NFC (LEMN) Drops

LEMN DROPS is a phygital music distribution platform that allows artists and creators to distribute digital music through physical media custom printed secure NFC cards.

Fans tap the card with their NFC enabled smartphone to instantly access streaming music, albums, singles, and digital content through a browser experience.

  1. You submit your artwork for the custom printed NFC music cards for artists.
  2. You submit your music files in MP3 format along with metadata & information related to your music drop or album
  3. We print and encode secure NFC cards.
  4. We host the music and information you submit on our phygital music distribution platform that links to the cards & delivers the music experience to those who have a valid card.
  5. We ship you your custom cards & you can determine your own selling price and sell them on your website, at events, at stores just like you would sell music merch, a CD or vinyl record
  6. Fans tap the card with their phone.
  7. The NFC chip authenticates the card & access to the music, opens a digital music player experience within the phone browser and the music streams instantly from the LEMN DROPS platform.
  8. The process is similar to ordering & releasing your music on physical media like CDs or Vinyl Records except, the music is digitally streamed through a smartphone, can not be copied or replicated and can only be accessed through tapping the physical NFC card.

No app download is required.

No. Most modern smartphones support NFC natively.

Fans simply tap the card and the experience opens in their browser.

LEMN DROPS operates on a one-time fee model.

The cost of the NFC cards includes:

  • Printing
  • Secure NFC encoding
  • Hosting and streaming
  • Platform provisioning

There are no separate hosting or streaming subscription fees.

No. Hosting and streaming are included in your card purchase. When purchasing the NFC music cards you are not just paying for the cards but also the platform and infrastructure for hosting your music, information and streaming infrastructure for several years.

Minimum order quantities may apply depending on the product format. The smallest quantity we offer today is a pack of 25 custom NFC music cards.

Yes. You submit your artwork and we print the cards according to your approved design.

In many cases, yes. The digital content linked to the NFC card can be updated through the platform unless otherwise restricted by your project configuration.

Contact us to confirm your specific setup and the change you require.

We use secure NFC technology based on the NXP NTAG 424 DNA NFC printed electronic inlays designed to authenticate, prevent cloning and unauthorized duplication or sharing of links. Each time the NFC card is tapped, the chip within the card generates an AES-128 encrypted key which keeps changing and forms part of the URL. This is then decrypted & authenticated by our platform back-end and sent back to the user all within a second. The link is then almost instantly expired making it impossible to copy or access without the NFC card. This ensures that only those who have a registered, valid card can access the music drop.

Most modern smartphones (iPhone XR and newer, and most Android devices) support NFC tap functionality.

Older devices may not support NFC.

No. LEMN DROPS does not take streaming royalties.

You are responsible for managing your own royalties and rights agreements. Our objective is to provide artists with a fixed cost physical version of their work that they can sell and keep the entire profits they earn from their music.

This depends on your local customs and import regulations, which vary by country. If your local authorities require duties, tariffs or import taxes to release the package, those are the responsibility of the recipient. Packages are declared as electronic NFC cards with encoded content. We recommend checking with your local customs office if you’re unsure what to expect.

Access is permanent — there’s no expiration or time limit on the music once a card is purchased.

All music, along with metadata like lyrics, artist bios, and featured videos, is hosted on our cloud platform (similar in concept to CD Baby or DistroKid), with the web experience streamed from there. Our infrastructure runs on AWS, with primary servers in the US and geographically separate backup servers for redundancy. Our platform is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified for security.

If LEMN Drops were ever to discontinue operations, we would provide advance notice and work to reroute the links encoded in each card — either to alternate hosting we provide or to the artist’s own hosting — along with a basic player, so fans retain access to the music. The one thing that couldn’t carry over in that scenario is the card’s unclonable authentication feature.

No. The cost of the card is a one-time purchase — we cover all hosting and maintenance on our end so artists can retain as much margin as possible.

Yes. The card’s serial number and unique encoded link are fixed, but everything else in the experience — tracks, artwork, bio, videos, and other content — can be updated on the backend upon request at any time and will reflect automatically when the card is tapped.

A single card can hold a full album — up to 16 tracks by default, with exceptions available for larger albums. Cards can also be configured for a single release, with or without bonus tracks. Note that with a single-song card, your pricing margin may be more limited since buyers typically expect to pay less for a single than a full album.

LEMN Drops functions like a CD replicator and hosting provider — we press and supply the cards and host the linked content, but we never take ownership of the music or IP, which remains entirely with the artist. We also don’t sell the music ourselves; we simply set up the experience and give artists the cards to sell directly to their fans.

Yes. The artwork can include a space reserved for a handwritten signature (works well with a permanent marker or CD DVD marker pen), and you can also add a digital signature or autograph image within the artist bio section of the online experience.

Most NFC cards use a static NFC tag with a fixed URL, which is easy to copy or share, making counterfeiting simple. Our cards use the NXP NTAG 424 DNA chip, a security-focused NFC chip that generates a unique, encrypted, one-time key each time the card is tapped. That key is appended to the URL and verified in real time by our platform — similar to how a bank security fob or one-time SMS passcode works, where the code constantly changes and can’t be predicted in advance. Each card also has a unique hardware ID registered to our platform, so a duplicate or cloned card wouldn’t authenticate even if someone tried to replicate it. This makes the cards genuinely counterfeit-resistant and well suited to limited-edition collectibles.

Each tap generates a unique authentication key that’s only valid for about one second — just long enough to verify the card and open the experience. Once verified, that session stays active in the browser for about 30 minutes. But if the link itself is copied and shared with someone else after that first second, it will have already expired and won’t authenticate. In short: only someone with the physical card can generate a new valid session — a shared link alone won’t work.
